Description
SMOChem™ 1X MOPS-SDS Running Buffer Powder is a convenient, premeasured electrophoresis buffer from SMOBIO Technology for denaturing protein separation by SDS-PAGE using the Bis-Tris buffer system.
The buffer is designed for use with Q-PAGE™ Bis-Tris Precast Gels and other compatible polyacrylamide gels operating with MOPS-SDS running buffer. It supports reproducible protein migration and effective separation of medium- and larger-sized proteins.
Compared with MES-SDS running buffer, MOPS-SDS generally provides improved separation of medium- to high-molecular-weight proteins. This makes it suitable for routine protein characterization, protein-purity assessment, recombinant protein analysis and sample separation before Western blotting.
Each package contains five individually measured powder pouches. One complete pouch is dissolved in deionized water to prepare 1 litre of ready-to-use 1X MOPS-SDS buffer, providing a total preparation volume of 5 litres per product pack.
The prepared 1X buffer contains 50 mM Tris base, 50 mM MOPS, 0.1% SDS and 1 mM EDTA. No pH adjustment is required. The premeasured powder dissolves within minutes, reducing weighing errors and improving consistency between electrophoresis runs.
Sodium dodecyl sulfate, or SDS, denatures proteins and provides a broadly uniform negative charge-to-mass ratio. Protein migration during electrophoresis therefore depends primarily on molecular size rather than intrinsic electrical charge.

Final 1X Composition: 50 mM Tris base • 50 mM MOPS • 0.1% SDS • 1 mM EDTA
Preparation: Empty the complete contents of one pouch into a suitable laboratory container. Add deionized water and dissolve the powder completely, then adjust the final volume to 1 litre with deionized water. No pH adjustment is required.
Important Preparation Note: Do not divide a powder pouch to prepare a smaller volume. Uneven distribution of the different powder components may alter the final buffer composition or pH. Always use one complete pouch to prepare 1 litre of 1X buffer.
Use Recommendation: Use fresh buffer for consistent electrophoresis performance. Reusing running buffer may alter its pH and ionic strength and may introduce residual protein contamination that affects migration and band resolution.
Storage: Store unopened powder pouches at room temperature. The manufacturer states a shelf life of 24 months under the recommended storage conditions.

Important: Use MOPS-SDS buffer with compatible Bis-Tris gels. It should not be substituted with Tris-Glycine-SDS running buffer, as using an incompatible buffer system can alter protein migration and reduce separation quality.
