Background Information

Avian Influenza (AI) is an acute infectious disease of birds caused by infection with the avian influenza virus, and it causes severe damage in poultry such as chickens, turkeys, and ducks. Depending on the pathogenicity of the virus, AI can be broadly classified into low pathogenic avian influenza (LPAI) and highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI). Among them, HPAI is designated as a notifiable disease by the World Organisation for Animal Health due to its high risk, and any occurrence must be reported to the OIE. The avian influenza virus belongs to the family Orthomyxoviridae and the genus Influenza A virus, and is a negative-sense RNA virus. It consists of two surface antigen genes, hemagglutinin (HA) and neuraminidase (NA), and six internal genes including M, NP, and PB2. Real-time PCR methods for diagnosing avian influenza virus have been standardized and distributed. In cooperation with the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs Quarantine Service, we have commercialized the AIV H5 Real-time RT-PCR Kit, which targets the influenza A virus H5 gene, as well as the AIV M Real-time RT-PCR Kit and AIV H7 Real-time RT-PCR Kit for M and H7 serotyping, respectively. This product is a probe-based Real-time RT-PCR assay targeting a specific sequence of the H5 gene, a highly conserved region of the influenza A virus. It employs high-efficiency reverse transcriptase and a Hot Start PCR enzyme to maximize detection performance, making it highly sensitive and specific for screening avian influenza virus in samples. In addition, reagents such as primers/probes and qRT-PCR master mix are pre-mixed and dispensed through an automated process, providing precise aliquoting, minimized risk of cross-contamination during handling, ease of use, and excellent reproducibility of results​.

Principle

•   AIV(Avian Influenza Virus) H5 Real-time RT-PCR Kit is an RNA amplification assay based on Real-time RT-PCR technology​.

•   This kit contains all the necessary components for Real-time RT-PCR, allowing users to simply add 5 µL of extracted RNA to the reaction mixture and perform testing immediatel​y.

•   A Control DNA is included to verify assay validity and ensure reliable test performance​.

•   This product is a qualitative RT-PCR (Reverse Transcription–Polymerase Chain Reaction) reagent designed to detect the H5 gene of avian influenza virus for screening purposes. It is intended for use with viral culture fluids from suspected infected birds, tonsil swabs, allantoic fluid, blood, tissue homogenates, and fecal homogenates​.
